2006 Special Olympics Golf
Classic

The fifth annual Special Olympics Golf
Classic was held Nov. 18 at the Lakeview Golf Club in
Delray Beach. The event is held each year to raise money
and awareness for the Special Olympics of Palm Beach County
and the Special Olympians get to enjoy nine holes of golf
with adult and juniors golfers.
This year's competition was won by Emile
Papell, Allie Papell, Roz Papell, Fran Papell and Ben
Papell, who teamed up to shoot a score of 5-under . Rick
Hayes, Ricky Hayes, Debbi Hayes and Ken Liudahl finished
as the tournament runners-up with a score of 4-under.
Three teams tied for third place with
respective scores of 3-under.
Armel Romelus, Gabe McManus, Parker
Curlander and Chris Little formed one of the third place
teams. Hunter Stofft, Taylor Stofft and Gary Stofft formed
another. The other third place team consisted of Michael
Pace Jr., Michael Pace Sr., Sean Lawless and Glen Thompson.
The Special Olympics tournament was
also held in conjunction with the sixth annual Commissioners
Short Shot Challenge. Delray commissioner Jon Levinson
topped Mayor Jeff Perlman in the closest to the pin competition.
Levinson came within 11 feet, 1 inch in the best shot
of three format.
