63rd Womens International
Four Ball Championship
January 26-29, 2009

Orangebrook Golf and Country Club for the 63rd year hosted the top women amateur golfers in the country.  The format of play is two person teams playing 36 holes stroke play to qualify for the final eight spots in match.
The quarterfinal matches provided real excitement as three of the matches went all the way to the last hole.  One of the matches had thirteen birdies among the four players.  It was amazing spectator golf.
Our Champions in 2009 are Meghan Bolger and Dawn Woodard defeating Diane Lang (two-time US Senior Women Amateur Champion) and her partner Maggie Weder.  Meghan and Dawn are also Mid Am Champions and Medalists.  Together they overpowered their very talented opponents.

9th Annual Diamonds in the Rough Tournament Results

9th Annual Diamonds in the Rough

Winners (L-R) Marc Fichtel, John Wilson,
Joe Gaita & Larry Mehnert

Hollywood’s Diamonds in the Rough ninth annual golf tournament was held on Saturday, April 14th on Orangebrook Golf & Country Club’s West Course. A full field participated in the four person scramble with an Award’s banquet following the golf tournament. This was the largest field this tournament has hosted since the inception of the program in 1998. The diverse filed of players included many supporters from local businesses, the City of Hollywood, and many Officers from the Hollywood Police Department. Area business leaders who participated were two foursomes from Alternative Funds Soultions, LLC, one team from Quality Beef and a foursome from Sun Cruz. Local support from Orangebrook was evident with a strong turnout from the Hollywood Women’s Golf Association and the Hollywood Men’s Golf Association.

The strong team of Marc Fichtel, John Wilson, Joe Gaita and Larry Mehnert won with a net score of 61. But the real winners of the tournament were the children in our community. This event raised over $10,000 that will be used to finance this summer’s golf program. The children participating in the program will be attending summer camps through the City of Hollywood, Hollywood Boy’s Club and Girl’s Club, and the YMCA. The summer program will run for nine weeks, starting in mid-June.

The Board of Director’s of Hollywood’s Diamonds in the Rough would like to thank all the sponsors, volunteers, and tournament participants who made our 2007 tournament such an outstanding success. Thank you for helping our area youth learn the great game of golf!
